The 314th Anniversary of Mirza Abdul-Qadir Bedil’s Death

For the first time, the 314th anniversary of the death of the renowned Sufi poet Mirza Abdul-Qadir Bedil was commemorated in Turkey, in a special event held in Istanbul.

The program was organized by the Sokhan Cultural Association in cooperation with the Bedil Lovers Association, the Turkish Writers' Union, and the Hafiz Shirazi Research Center at Istanbul Medeniyet University.

The event gathered Bedil enthusiasts, researchers, poets, and cultural figures from both Afghanistan and Turkey.

Participants came together to honor the memory of this great poet and explore various aspects of his work and philosophy.

The event was hosted by renowned poet and presenter Leili Ghazal.

The first speaker, Zuhur Mazhar, head of the Sokhan Cultural Association, introduced Bedil’s biography and the history of the “Bedil Urs” tradition.

He emphasized the spiritual and literary importance of this occasion as an opportunity to reconnect with mystical thought and poetry.

Next, Dr.

Turgay Shafak, professor of Persian language and literature at Istanbul Medeniyet University, offered a comparative analysis of Bedil's influence on Turkish literature and highlighted the parallels between the Indian style (Sabk-e Hindi) and certain elements of Ottoman poetry.

Shahbaz Iraj, a journalist, poet, and scholar of Sufi literature, discussed the intricate nature and unique beauty of Bedil's poetic language.

Bedil expert Mohammad Popal followed with a presentation on the concept of "incapacity" (ajz) as a core theme in Bedil’s ghazals.

Ubayd Safi, from the Bedil Lovers Association, examined the content and enduring legacy of Bedil's poetry.

Prominent poet Saadullah Haqyar created a spiritual atmosphere with his reading of Bedil’s ghazals, followed by eloquent recitations by Uranus Mosammam and Naqeeb Khatibi.
